About Nick

Nick was born in Braintree in 1960 and is the third of seven children having two older sisters, a younger sister and three younger brothers. Upon leaving School he initially pursued a career in banking and finance working first for Lloyds Bank and then for Essex Area Health Authority in their Financial Accounts and Internal Audit Departments. In 1982 he took a rather different path and joined Essex Police serving for 30yrs until 2012 having spent the last several years of his service as part of a covert intelligence unit. Whilst serving in the police he studied with the Open University and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. Since retiring from the Police he has held positions with the Essex Education Welfare Service and Essex Probation Service. Nick lives with his wife Hilda two Cocker Spaniels named Rusty and Barney. Hilda is a Practice Nurse at a GP Surgery in Braintree where she has been one of the front line workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nick is a life long follower of Manchester United Football Club and also enjoys watching MotoGP. His guilty pleasure is watching Coronation Street!

Nick was initiated into the New Elizabethan Lodge No 7561 at Upminster in 1993 and became Worshipful Master in 1999; he remains the Lodge DC, an office he has held since 2004. He is also a member of Rosslyn Lodge No 1543, Braintree Saint George Lodge No 9774, West Essex Lodge No 2561, Essex Masters Lodge No 3256, North Essex Masters Lodge No 9831 and the Bear & Ragged Staff Lodge No 8527. He was exalted into the Chapter of St Mary No 1312 in Braintree in 1996 where he was MEZ in 2006. He is also a member of Essex First Principals Chapter No 3256 and the Chapter of Probity No 7333. He holds the rank of Past Senior Grand Deacon in the Craft and Past Grand Sword Bearer in the Royal Arch.

He is a member of many of the additional Orders including Mark, Royal Ark Mariners, Rose Croix, Knights Templar, Knight Templar Priests, the Commemorative Order of St Thomas of Acon, the Allied Masonic Degrees, the Red Cross of Constantine, Royal & Select Masters and the Royal Order of Scotland.

Nick was appointed as a Provincial Grand Steward in the Craft in 2001 but missed out on being a Provincial Steward in the Royal Arch being instead appointed as a Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies in 2007. He was promoted to Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies in the Royal Arch in 2009 and subsequently Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies in 2012. He was subsequently appointed as Third Provincial Grand Principal in 2015 which was followed in 2017 by two years as a member of the Essex Craft Executive as an Assistant Provincial Grand Master before returning to the Royal Arch Executive in 2019 as Deputy Grand Superintendent.

Duties: The role of the Deputy Grand Superintendent is to assist and to deputise for the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent in the effective and efficient leadership of the Holy Royal Arch Province of Essex and to regulate the Chapters therein. Also, to represent the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent at significant Masonic occasions within the Province as well as to represent the Province on significant Masonic occasions in other Provinces.
